Okay let me start off by saying I didn't dislike this book. However, the first thing that docs my rating would have to be how confusing the plot is. I didn't fully grasp what was going on until about half way or a little more than half way through the book. It is definitely high fantasy, with a fulllll on glossary and map in the beginning that I frequently had to turn back to during my reading. I'm not going to lie, I did not like this book really until about 60% through maybe. I struggled to pick it up and get through it BUT I'm glad I did end up finishing. It was very plot heavy, lots of magical things occurring that are confusing for a while until later, and there was lots of gore. Please be sure to read the trigger warnings listed in the back of this book before reading because wow, it was an intense fantasy. There were lots of parts where I wish I could un read what I read because of how gory/raunchy some scenes were. I also wished this book had more dragons/relationships with dragons given the cover, art, etc.

HOWEVER. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending of this book and I quite possibly will read the next one when it comes out in the fall. I feel like it will most likely be better than this one.
