Gentle and Lowly - dane ortlund
I have been wanting to read this book for a while, as someone who struggles with feeling like God must get tired of me sinning and running back to Him over and over again like a dog with my tail between my legs. It's like I know God's love for me is endless, but I still feel like He must get annoyed. This book was a great insight into the heart of Christ, backed first and foremost by scripture. I highly recommend pulling up the full chapters or verses for ones used as examples in this text to get a bigger scope/picture of the situation in which it is being used. I definitely took my time reading this. There were some heavy hitting quotes in here too that caused me to pause and think "wow I've never thought of this this way before" or "that's really good". There were a few random things here and there from the author's own perspective/opinion that I didn't fully agree with. For example, when he said something along the lines of humans already thinking the best of themselves in most situations and refusing to acknowledge their shortcomings, it was implied that all humans think like that. I think I disagree, because I know people who tend to think the worst about themselves and put themselves so low sometimes, me included. Besides that and less than a handful of other disagreements with the author's opinions, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend it to the people like me who question if Christ ever gets tired of me running back to Him, asking for forgiveness, etc. And like the epilogue states, this book is not a "how to" or "what should I do differently in my life now?" kind of book. He simply says to just bask in it, Christ's heart for us. Go to Jesus. Long to live like Jesus. Everything else will follow.
